The Maritime Mixed Dozen

Trevelen Farm is a family run business based on environmentally sustainable principles. Owned by John and Katie Sprig, Trevelen Farm has a family history in wine making dating back to the 1850’s. The current vineyard was established on the family farm in 1993, and it is the most northern vineyard in the great southern region of Western Australia. This protects the vineyard from diseases caused by coastal rain and reduces the use of artificial disease control substances. Climate is slightly warmer than the coast, but still benefits from the cool sea breezes. In 2008 John and Katie Sprigg decided to pass ownership of their 1300ha wool, meat and grain-producing farm to their son Ben and wife Louise. However, they have kept control of the vineyard and have also established partner vineyards in the nearby Frankland River sub–region, giving Trevelen Farm a wider choice for fruit selection.

The wines are carefully made by James Kellie, formerly of Howard Park in Denmark, who has built a ‘state of the art’ 500 tonne winery, where he carefully applies his passion to crafting Trevelen’s award winning wines.

Trevelen Farms success is evidenced by their growing export trade to Japan, Macau and China.

The Trevelen Farm "The Maritime" 2012 Chardonnay has a brilliant green straw colour, with an intense aroma of stone fruits, namely ripe peaches and nectarines balanced by spicy French oak with complex yeast derived savoury aromas. It has a rich, creamy taste with guava and complex hints of tropical fruit leading to a crisp dry citrus dominated finish. The subtlety of the French Oak Treatment is evident complimenting the wine from start to finish.

It is best drunk young – but will develop well to and beyond 2016.

The Trevelen Farm "The Maritime" 2012 Pinot Noir has a light bright cherry red colour colour, with a lifted spicy ripe aroma. The subtlety of the French Oak Treatment is evident complimenting the wine from start to finish.

Enjoy!
