96 POINTS - JAMES HALLIDAY
5 Star Winery
"Remarkably brilliant quartz-green; while the scale on the back label accurately indicates a wine near the extreme of the dry range, the wine is so loaded with lime and lemon sherbet fruit you might think it to be a little sugar-sweet, but this is simply the fruit calling in angelic song." - James Halliday
Long Lasting Vintage
Trevelen Farm is a family run business based on environmentally sustainable principles. Owned by John and Katie Sprig, Trevelen Farm has a family history in wine making dating back to the 1850’s. The current vineyard was established on the family farm in 1993, and it is the most northern vineyard in the great southern region of Western Australia. This protects the vineyard from diseases caused by coastal rain and reduces the use of artificial disease control substances. Climate is slightly warmer than the coast, but still benefits from the cool sea breezes. In 2008 John and Katie Sprigg decided to pass ownership of their 1300ha wool, meat and grain-producing farm to their son Ben and wife Louise. However, they have kept control of the vineyard and have also established partner vineyards in the nearby Frankland River sub–region, giving Trevelen Farm a wider choice for fruit selection.
The wines are carefully made by James Kellie, formerly of Howard Park in Denmark, who has built a ‘state of the art’ 500 tonne winery, where he carefully applies his passion to crafting Trevelen’s award winning wines.
Trevelen Farms success is evidenced by their growing export trade to Japan, Macau and China.
The TREVELEN FARM 'Great Southern' Riesling 2012 is straw coloured with a lifted floral, citrus blossom nose and a vibrant lemon, lemon meringue palate. This vintage has the makings of a very long lasting vintage , and will develop for many years.
The 2011 vintage is pale straw coloured with a lifted and aromatic nose and a spicy and zesty lime and lemon palate to the fore, with a hint of mandarin, and ending in a crisp zesty citrus finish. Will age well for many years as many of the Trevelen farm Rieslings do. This Wine has very, very good ageing potential. It won a Gold Medal at the International Riesling Challenge, in Canberra and a Silver medal at the Perth Royal Show.
Enjoy!
