The history of Poderi Luigi Einaudi started in 1897, when Luigi, still only 23 years old, acquired the farmhouse ‘San Giacomo’ in the burgh of Dogliani surrounded by 40 acres of vineyards. 11 farmhouses in the best positions in Dogliani and Barolo, share the totel area of the estate that is about 145 hectares, 104 in Dogliani and 7 in Barolo on the hills of Cannubi, Terlo Vie Nuove and 3 on the hills of Trieso.
Since its foundation, the Poderi Einaudi has grown by acquiring numerous vineyards, always chosen respecting the rule that ‘Great wine can only come from vineyard and a great Terroir’. This was clear with their first acquisitions being ‘Cru San Luigi in Dogliani and one most recently the ‘Cru Cannubi’ in Barolo.
Today the estate is operated under the direction of the founders’ granddaughter, Paola, who has been embarking on attentive yield mangemnet, together with changes to winemaking practices, including longer periods of skin contact and less use of new french oak. These changes in combination with outstanding vineyard sites have seen this historic property re-assert itself and one Piedmont’s leading estates.
