Weingut Stift Klosterneuberg Monastry Wine Estate is one of the most fascinating cellars in Austria, an unbroken wine growing tradition for nearly 900 years and quality without compromise are the attributes of the OLDEST winery in Austria. The origins of Klosterneuburg Monastery go back to Margrave Leopold III, who in 1113 relocated his residence to Klosterneuburg and in the following year fulfilled a vow by founding the monastery.

In 1114 Weingut Stift Klosterneuburg was founded, then in 1133 the Babenberg Prince summoned the Canons Regular of St. Augustine to Klosterneuburg, where they were to spend centuries developing the monastery into a centre of religious life, culture and scholarship. To this day the Augustinian Canons work in this spirit and according to the monastic Rule of Saint Augustine.

With a total vineyard area of 108 hectares, spread across vineyard sites in four different wine villages and focuses on ‘Autochthon’ Grape Varieties such as Gruener Veltliner, Welshriesling, Wei&Burgunder (Pinot Blanc), Zierfandler, Rotgipfler, Zweigelt Blaufrankisch and the largest planting of St Laurent (Burgunian Origins) in Austria and the world.

Centuries of experience, thoughtful vineyard cultivation in harmony with nature, and openness for new ideas make it possible to create truly great wines each year. Stift Klosterneuburg is dedicated to producing authentic wines of character, wines with a sense of place.

Stift Klosterneuburg is also a leader in sustainability and environmental protection and was the first carbon neutral winery in Austria.
